Hello from Ukraine!
We wanted to let everyone know that we anticipate our court date being this Friday (Praise the Lord!!) There are several things that have to fall into place for that to happen. We are waiting on a few key documents that will be needed for the hearing to take place. Please pray that everyting falls into place, our court date occurs on Friday and that things go smoothly. We are ready for things to progress so that we can be closer to a return date.
The children are wonderful and and Jerry and I are working on learning some Russian as I type. We had learned some Ukrianian before we left, but in our region, Russian is the dominant language. Therefore, Jerry and I will now know how to get around in several countries! We simply need to know some words so that the older two children can "get the point" when we are talking. They are doing very well and are trying to pick up some English words. They have also learned to write all of our names in English! We can also write them and they recognize whose name belongs to who. #2 became quite curious about our names this week. Instead of just being Mama and Papa, they wanted to know our actual names. We took them up on this opportunity and taught them our names in English, along with their new last name. It is a great thing that Hood is so easy to spell! They have that down pat! #3 and #4 are both picking up on some English words very quickly. It is always fun to hear them imitate us with a southern accent. We were showing them some pictures the other day, and #3 popped out the word "uncle" in true southern fashion. It sounded so out of place-it was hysterical!
All in all, things are well and we are anxious to take the next step. The children feel like ours-good and bad! We can not imagine our lives without them now. As hard as it is to be away from home, it is all worth it when they are sitting in your lap and simply kiss just because they love you.

Yay! Sounds like things are really progressing. Thank goodness you are no longer a Calame...that would have been a doozie for them to learn. haha. I am sure I speak for everyone when I say we are so glad to see new blog updates! What is the process after the court date? Sorry I know zero about the process but am enjoying learning! Please tell everyone hello from their aunt! I can't wait for them to meet Dolly and Sunny. We will probably have to sedate Sunny. haha. Miss you bunches. Kea
How exciting!!! I can't wait to meet them. If you go to court on Friday, what will happen next?? What do we need to do here to prepare for your arrival? Can I get your mom's e-mail or phone #? Love to get the updates.
God Bless You and your new family!!!!

Hope all goes well and the court date is really Friday;that would be fantastic. I'm trying to find the article that is in the Birminhgam News Southern Edition but have been unable to locate it on the Internet.Have my grandchildren been practicing "HONEY" instead of "Babushka". I really don't feel like a Babushka. Just keep showing them the pictures of me and Big Lee and stressing how wonderful I am. Ha Ha. Tell them if they call me "Honey" they will get a present when they get to the USA; isn't that what grandmothers are supposed to do. (That's what yours did). Well, gotta go. The weather is beautiful in the 80's. Your Dad has a bad case of Spring Fever and so do I. I want you all home NOW so we can have a picnic. Ha Ha! Doesn't that sound good. Bundle up and try to stay dry. give my wonderful granchildren hugs and kisses from HONEY.
Take care of each other.
Miss you both,
Honey and Big Lee
P.S. From Granny--She said for ya'll to start taking vitamins; that you will need them. She thinks there might be some in the country you are in but she is not sure since they haven't sold any on QVC. Ha Ha (that's my MOM)
Amanda and Jerry,
It will truly be worth it all! You are sounding like a mom full of tenderness as you speak of your dear children. We're praying!

So glad to hear you have a court date (at least tentative). I will pray that it all goes well and you can be on your way home. I love your updates even if they do bring me to tears each time. I am so happy for you. Y'all are going to be great parents and those children are truly blessed.
Love,
Shirley
Have they learned to tackle yet?
Hi! You don't know me, but I am a fellow Alabamian. We live in Alabaster and I just saw your story in the newspaper. Our youngest is from UA, adopted in Dec 2006 so of course I was thrilled to see your story!
Congratulations on 4 at once! We have 5 and they are a lot of work, but they are even more fun. Enjoy your stay! I hope court goes smoothly and quickly for you.
Congratulations! I found your blog via "The Heart of the Matter" blog and just wanted to encourage you in this very long process--we adopted our girls in 2002 from Russia.
I laughed when I read that one of your sons said 'uncle' with an accent (already!!)! Our oldest was recently told by her Russian teacher (a native speaker) that she now speaks Russian with an Okie accent!
Will be praying for you in the days to come and look forward to your blog updates!
Mrs. Hood,
I have a copy of the article in the Hoover News section of the Wed paper...I'll keep it for you. Been keeping you and Coach Hood in our prayers....
Fondly,

Amanda and Jerry,
I just discovered the blog earlier in the week. Good luck with your court date--all 6 of you are in my prayers!!

WOW !!! TV Movie Stars and a newspaper article. I feel so honor to know such wonderful people. Ya'll must come from GREAT genes. All kidding aside, Dad and I are very proud of you both and can't wait for ya'll to get home with our first grandchildren. We always knew that you and your brother were close but for both of you to become parents in the same year and make us the proud grandparents of 5 grandchildren is even more than we could have hoped. WOW ! What a year! I wonder if Grandparents ever get over being excited about their grandchildren. Everytime I start thinking about them my heart starts beating way to fast. I think your Dad has had enough of you being out of the country; he says it's time for ya'll to get home. He misses you so much. Keep practicing "Honey".
Can I have an autograph??? Ha Ha
Hugs and Kisses to everyone,
Honey

Hi,
We saw the report about you on the evening news. We adopted 3 siblings (2, 7, and 9 yo) from Ukraine. They got to America on Dec 8, 2007.
Our adoption was from Mariupol city, Donetsk region on the Azov sea. I hope you were sent to a friendly orphanage.
We would love to stay in touch and see how things go for you. We would also love to discuss what things 'worked' for us and what didn't. Anything we can do to help a fellow Ameri-Ukrainian family. :)
Praying for you tomorrow. Let us know if we can be of any help when you come back through Kyiv.
Marianna
