Today I was taught a lesson in fatherhood. About halfway through the four hour morning visit, #3 had to go pee (my part of teaching English). This falls in Papa's hands. We do our business and return to play with the other five members of our family. It had to be anywhere between 20 and 30 seconds, #3 has to go again. {sidebar - papa has not covered the English word for doing poopie). He pulls down the pants and up on the pot he goes. No paper. Papa yells for wipes from Mama. A few minutes later we are washing our hands and returning to the crew. Then #2 has to go. Papa's job again.
Now some background, I have allowed the two oldest to listen to Mama and Papa's IPOD if they behave and are nice to the younger ones. #2 has an IPOD and we go to the bathroom. IPOD is attached to the pocket on the pants. Pants lowered. Ear phones fall out of ears and INTO THE TOILET. Now papa reaches to catch earphones. {At this point remember #3's adventures}
Papa pulls out headphones and they got stuck under the rim. #2 is dying laughing.
Lesson: Never get caught listening to Bon Jovi with your pants down.
Lesson #1 of many.
A thought: When you look into the eyes of the children here, you immediately realize that our lives must be lived to serve others. OM players, hug the significant male and female adult in your life and say thank you. -------------J (Hey Sela!)
Bubbles, balls, Cheerios, juice, music, yogurt, and anything with flashing lights and noise-These are a few of our favorite things!! (Kids can consume juice, Cheerios, and yogurt in massive quantities!) We are tired but are having a great time! I have never been so sore in my life! I am hurting in places that I never knew I had! Jerry and I tackled all four children yesterday and today! We would have made you proud! There are moments that we are feel like we are coralling children, but they are really doing wonderful! At least we know that we can do it. Traveling will be another issue.
We leave everyday feeling like we had some successes and discussing what we can do differently tomorrow. It gives a whole new meaning to the word TEAM. Once thing is for sure, everyone will know when the Hoods are around. We are loud, spontaneous, and big in numbers. All of the other adoptive parents are playing with their one child and they are quite and calm. And then there is the Hood family. There is no telling how it looks from the outside- to me, it is controlled chaos!! Everyday we make new discoveries and have new breakthroughs. There is no doubt in my mind that this is what Jerry and I were being prepared for. The children have wonderful personalities and each of them is very different. I feel like we are discovering a treasure every day!
We will find out about our court date tomorrow. Ukraine clebrates Easter, in addition to another holiday, the end of April and beginning of May. We REALLY do not need to get caught up in this delay. Please pray for a speedy court date!!
Love to you all!
Amanda

What a wonderful story! I know that your loud and boisterous group is music to your ears. Children (and I mean plural) are a blessing from the Lord - y'all are truly blessed! I am so happy for you both! Your whole family is in our prayers - Love, Grey Nakayama
Jerry, This is the first of many "bathroom" lessons you will experience. Boys just love bathrooms! How funny you are enjoying this with a language barrier. It makes it all the more funny! Amanda, we Hoods have been loud and chaotic for a long time, glad to know our newest members will fit right in! I was concerned about scaring them with our loud, crazy bunch when we all get together. I can rest easy now;) Oh the fun you are having!! Praying for a speedy court date....Love to you all.....
sorry... the previous post was from me....Dana

Mama looks gorgeous- you are glowing! And Amber is going all the way...she will rock Brett's world!
I love reading your blog! Our family is praying for you! Have a wonderful and safe week and we will see you soon!

It is a daily check that I make each day to see what is happening with you two (six). I love reading all that you write. I am so excited for you two and I know that you are going to be wonderful parents. For my 2 to love you the way they do, you have to be special. I pray for you each day.
I love the bathroom story. We are in the same situation. We are potty training Brock and Riley at the same time.
Let me know sizes on clothes. Our family is big and I would love to be gathering some things that you will need. For the little one, Riley hopefully can keep her stocked with clothes because BIG MAMA is a size larger for her age!
As far as the daycare, pray for a sale in our house and we may have to talk!! You know I want to stay home.
As a parent, each night I lay down exhausted, sore, and feel that I can't go any longer, but then I think of those beautiful smiles and silly laughs and for some reason I get reenergized. I know that you will too.
Have a great week and we will continue to pray for you.

LOL! Your blog about parenting lessons are hilarious and we (parents) continue to have those lessons day in and day out! I am so excited for all of you! What blessings....keep the faith and keep us updated!
Sending love, patience and endurance,
LaDonna
O.K. Little MaMa-Let's step up to the plate and help Pappa with the bathroom duties. I know you can do it-I have faith in you.Ha Ha! I can only imagine what the flight will be like on the way home. WE are all so excited and can't wait for a return date.
Hang in there, everything will work out for the best.
Love ya.

It sounds as though God truly has matched you with true "Hood" children. When we get together, has quiet and reserved ever been one of our traits? 4 more for the cousin reunion. They better not think they can have my fried pies!!
Don't sweat the Court date; everything in His Time. What a Glorious Witness you both are. I look forward to seeing you all get off the plane!!!
I love you
Steven
Wow, it sounds so exciting! I love checking in on your blog to follow your journey. And those parenting lessons will come fast and furious from now on, without end. I've decided this parenting thing is pretty much trial and error.
My family is praying for your safe and speedy return home with your new family!

Dear Jerry and Amanda,
I am so happy for you guys. I have been calling JD day after day to get updates. I have never seen her and Fred so excited! I can't wait to meet the new Hood family. The bathroom stories are priceless! You guys be safe and we'll see you back home soon!
Love, Yancy
Amanda,
We went to high school together and I heard about your blog from Deidra. It has been a regular read for me while on bedrest awaiting the birth of my 3rd child. I admire the faith and courage of you and your husband in your journey to become parents. You have our thoughts and prayers. Welcome to the club!

Amanda and Jerry,
The story about the bathroom is so funny!!! If the kids get any bright ideas, like mine did when they were younger, and decide to flush things like toy cars, toy wrenches, pencils,etc... for fun, call me because I have gotten really good at taking the toilet up, tipping it upside down to shake out the "goodies" and reseating it with a new wax ring and all. (It started getting expensive after having to call the plumber 2 times in one week so I watched and learned really quickly!) :) Yes! Amanda, you are glowing and so is Jerry! I could not be happier for you both!Keep kissing YOUR kids!:) Isn't it awesome!Reading your blog makes me smile every time! Thanks again for sharing this incredible time with all of us!
Michelle
Knowing Jerry, am sure it was an "ole'" arm tackle and nothing with solid form...
Glad to see you're having fun learning the joys of parenthood...

Welcome to the joys of parenthood! At least you don't have to worry about spoons and food being put in a VCR. The babysitting license is current and is ready to be used!

Wow, what memories your posts bring back for me and my time in Russia adopting my two. Amanda, we had spoken awhile back when you first started this journey, I didn't realize ya'll were gone til I was at SP last week. Hang in there, the trip home will certainly be an adventure to remember! I'll be praying for a quick court date for ya'll before the holiday (been there-done that:)! Chad - Hoover SRO
I saw the article in the B'ham News today. I have been to Ukraine a few times and left part of my heart there. I have a freshman at SPHS who became part of our family when he was 5 from a Russian orphanage. Adoption is the most splendid picture of what God does for us. The sacrifices you make are worth eternity to our children! You are in our prayers.
Jerry and Amanda,
I wanted to let you know we are praying for you. Hang in there and can't wait for more news. Let me know if you need anything.
Blessings,
Jana

Amanda:
Saw the article in the paper and got your blog sight. I have enjoyed reading it.
I primarily wanted you to know how well the two day review went during the accreditation. I was impressed and I want to commend you on a job well done to get things in order for our visitation.
Congratulations on beginning a new chapter in your life. Thanks for allowing your life to be a instrument of love and help for others. I know four children in this world who really don't realize how fortunate they are.
Take Care!
Ron Jones
I second the above blog ( about the children being blessed). I hope they will someday realize what a blessing that you became their parents. I pray everything is going well and the court date will be speedy. I so much enjoy the blog and look forward to it each day. Am so disappointed when there isn't anything new. I am praying for strength for each new day and lots of fun time.
I love you,
Shirley
