Step-by-Step

This journey is a whirlwind!! We have loved every minute of it so far-the highs and the lows. We are waiting to find out when our court date will be. We are praying that it comes swiftly. After the court date, there is a mandatory 10 day waiting period that allows time for people to challenge the adoptions. Although we are finding our time here is very beneficial, we would like to have a court date as soon as possible. We should know something soon! This will help us know how much longer we will be here.
The great thing about the time is being able to visit and play with the children every day. Jerry and I go to the orphanage in the morning and afternoon. We are tackling two at a time right now, but tomorrow we are going to try three! Wish us luck! The time with them is critical, as they are learning who we are and we are learning the same things about them.
The children are wonderful! We have sensed some excitement, mixed with some anxiety. I would be the same way! They each have their own personality and it did not take us long to learn who was bossy, who was athletic, who is afraid of birds, and who loves Cheerios!! They also love juice! They drink it in one big gulp!
We are having breakthroughs everyday. We pray that each day we will make a little progress with each one of them. We are so very blessed. If you have ever wondered whether God was listening, the Hoods can tell you that he is. Things do not always come the way you anticipate (in our case numbers!!), but God does provide and his timing is perfect.
Thank you to everyone who has prayed for us and has continued to follow our wonderful journey. We could not have done this without you so many of you. The hard part is just beginning, so please keep the prayers coming! We are praying for healthy attachments, easy transitions, and low anxiety (for all of us!). We feel like our family is much larger than 6 people. We feel like each of you has been on this journey with us, every step of the way!!

Love,
Amanda

So one is afraid of birds, huh? We may have really been related in another life! haha. Thanks for the update. I get very excited when I see a new post on the blog. I am hoping for some more pictures soon. I think that youngest is going to be a handful, haha! And I cannot wait for the oldest to come stay with Kylie and I. I think that would be so fun! I know you are having a blast with them each and everyday. Have you whipped out the photo albums yet? Hope not!!!!!! Your mom was nice enough to get us headsets for the Skype but we can't set it up until after the move. Lee is super pumped about having boys to play with. Keep blogging and emailing! Miss and love ya'll, Kea

Amanda and Jerry - I found out about your blog through Holly and Carlee who come to our house to work with the Stampede kids. What an exciting day to know that your children are within your reach! There's no greater blessing in life! I would imagine this is an anxious time for you as you wait for all of the details to be worked out. And fear could easily grip your heart. A couple of verses came to mind that I will be praying for you both.

"Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you...and the Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear, or be dismayed." Deut. 31:6,8

My favorite...

"He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in Him!" Ps. 112:7

Blessings to you both,

Kelly for all the Bucks

Hi Jerry and Amanda, I am so thankful that Mel And Jason found friends from so close to home in Kiev, and going through the same thing as they were. You have been a real blessing to them. I am also glad to hear the good news happening to your family. When Mel was ten, our little family grew from two to six over night when I married Pat and absorbed her three kids. There were a few challenges, but they were far outweighed by the continual blessings God sent us. I know God has great blessings in store for you all as well. My thanks and His blessings to you.

Hey Amanda and Jerry this is Katie Weldon from OM and church. Amanda, you tutored me in math back in high school and I can't tell you what a Godsend you were. I would still be at OM 5 years later if it weren't for you. Back to the matter at hand, I can't explain how excited we are for both of you. I am a teacher now and we have ten, 12-18 month olds running around daily. Three of the ten are adopted, two from the US and one from China. I can tell you honestly, those three children are the sweetest and most loving that we have. I truly believe they know, even at such a young age that they are loved in a way they wouldn't have been if things were different. They know they are blessed. Just like the three in my class, your four know. There's not a word or a way to explain it, but the look in their eyes says what words can't. We are praying for you all and we can't wait to learn more about them!

Jerry and Amanda,

I feel so blessed that Melanie, Jason, and Grant were able to meet you both in the Ukraine and to walk this journey together. What sweet hearts and maturity it is to walk in faith knowing 4 more won't make a difference in God's eyes since they all belong to him. I am praying along the same lines as you are for your family during this transitional time. Children have a way of taking you into their world, and making you see with their eyes. Your obedience to the Lord has been great, and I know he will bring you the rest of the way to complete his divine mission. In a way all you young parents that are adopting make me feel you are not only in the mission fields in a foreign country, but also great servants of willingness to bring Christ glory through all you have endured to capture sweet children of his creation without setting limitations. It has to be one of the greatest tests of faith. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me through your walk. It's through our stories we can give him much glory. I love all your pics as I once worked in photography, and the pics are just beautiful. I enjoyed looking at them sooooooo much. You two are a beautiful couple, and I pray your sweet new family with Jason,. Melanie, and Grant's new one(s) will continue in sharing the work the Lord has started. These children are the fruits of your labors, and I know each of your families will be busy, but I'm praying you will find time of sharing and comfort as you each arrive home. Your experiences have touched my heart. Thank you for being such kind friends to my children. Remember prayer will take us through when nothing else will.
God Bless you ALL!

Amanda and Jerry,
We are so excited for you and thank you for allowing us to be a part of this great blessing that God has given you. Jerry, you have been there with us good and bad as we go through our journey with cancer. I still have the email you sent me right before you left JFK. In that email you said God is in control and this is part of your journey. Our journey's are different but they ultimately are for the same reason...to be there and to take care of God's greatest blessing...children. When reading your email, I finally accepted our journey with the patience of my husband and children as you two went on yours. We have and will continue to pray for the process to be a speedy and an easy transition for you. Please know that the whole community is thinking about the both of you. Coach Hood know that you have a great group of upcoming senior boys waiting for your return. We had the pleasure of spending spring break with them and they are a remarkable group that represents OM well. Can't wait to hear more about your new family.
